Epson V600 and Windows 10: A Review

I've used other scanners that have magnetic strips for their holders and I prefer those by a long shot. However, the Epson V600 scanner is still a great option, especially considering its price point of $229.99 (although there were deals available for under $200 at the time of writing).

One thing I don't like about the plastic holders provided with the scanner is that they're made of lower-quality material. On the other hand, the scanner does come with an additional film holder for mounted slide film.

The V600 has a number of features that make it well-suited for scanning film. You can scan up to twelve 35mm photos or four medium format photos at once, which is convenient if you have a large collection of negatives to digitize. Once set up, using the scanner is relatively straightforward: simply lay your film in one of the provided plastic holders, snap it shut, and place it on the scanner bed so that your negatives are centered.

The scanner also has the ability to scan normal documents, not just film negatives. However, when it comes to scanning film, there are a lot of factors that can affect the quality of the final image. Film negatives are similar to Raw files in that they require processing and editing to achieve a desirable result. This can be a bit overwhelming for beginners, but with practice and patience, you can produce high-quality scans.

I've been scanning my own film for several years using different scanners, and I can attest that there is definitely a learning curve involved. However, the Epson V600 is relatively easy to use right out of the box. The scanner comes with a power cable, data cable, and an Epson software CD.

In terms of specifications, the Epson V600 has a maximum film scan resolution of 6400 x 9600 dpi. This is impressive for a scanner in this price range, and it makes it well-suited for digitizing your film negatives.
